Fireworks Night May 2012

Local annual Cracker Night will be held this weekend on Friday May 25th and Saturday May 26th. The Dogs’ Homes of Tasmania asks that the public be aware that the nature of firework displays can cause trauma and distress to pets, and particularly to dogs as sensitive hearing means loud noises can cause physical pain to their ears.

The Dogs’ Homes of Tasmania recommends that dog owners also check the security of their fences and dog inhabited areas to ensure that there are no spaces in which your dog could escape or cause itself harm in attempting to do so. By law dogs require a collar, ID tag and microchip for permanent identification, all of which are readily available at the Dogs’ Homes of Tasmania in Burnie, Devonport and Hobart. It is also important to update your dogs’ micro-chip information regularly, particularly if you relocate.

Firework presentations are scheduled for Risdon Vale on Friday May 25th and for the following areas on Saturday May 26th:  Sandford; Richmond; Campania; Roaches Beach; Ouse; Cambridge; Dromedary; Howden; Snug; Lower Longley; Cradoc; Renalagh; GardnersBay; Copping; Dunalley; Magra; Murdunna; Premaydena; NewNorfolk; Rheban; andCranbrook.

Please find ways to keep your pets calm and safe during firework displays at Pets and Fireworks.
